Description of the Land
Situated in the heart of the rolling foothills and rich grasslands of the southern Laramie Mountains, the Moriah Ranch controls nearly 22 square miles of the choicest elk habitat in Wyoming. Herds of 300 or more animals roam freely among the ranch's plentiful wooded draws, grassy glades and rugged granite outcroppings. The area has long been prized for its hunting, as evidenced by native American teepee rings and other artifacts scattered throughout the property. Today, Moriah Ranch lies within Wyoming's Area 7, arguably the best trophy elk unit in the state, with many 350- to 400-class bulls on record. As a private wildlife retreat or as a headquarters for a trophy hunting operation, Moriah Ranch has few equals in Wyoming or anywhere else in the Rockies, for that matter.

Plentiful water on the ranch, including several lakes and one year-round stream, is key to its productivity for elk as well as for other game species of mule deer, antelope, mountain lion, bear, sage grouse and waterfowl. The ranch qualifies for landowner tags for elk, deer and antelope. Thus, the variety of hunting available on the Moriah Ranch is a real asset to its classification as a high-end sportsman's destination. Beef cattle have flourished on the same rich grasses that support the ranch's elk herds, and the ranch is suitable for a year-round or summer cattle operation. Both stream and lake fishing are found on Moriah Ranch, too, including one large lake that grows monster brown, brookies and rainbow trout (some in excess of 30 inches).

The approximately 13,759 total acres (13,067.28 deeded) of the ranch are nicely blocked, providing for ecological integrity and privacy in four directions. Elevations range from 7000 feet along Duck Creek to just over 8000 feet at the peak of the scenic Pinto Rocks. The ranch is fully fenced and ready for cattle, if desired. A beautifully remodeled three-bedroom, two and one half bath home, artist's bungalow and large quonset hut serve as the comfortable headquarters of the ranch, and a new 20x24 log cabin serves as a hunting outpost in the "northern outback" of the ranch. This world class recreational and hunting property already has power and is conveniently located only an hour's drive from either Laramie or Wheatland, on all-season roads.

Trophy elk obviously love the Moriah Ranch, and so will sportsmen who have an eye for big game habitat of exceptional quality. Harrigan Land Company would be proud to show this prime piece of Wyoming, at your request.
